Sebastian Fagerlund

Suomeksi - In Finnish

Born 1972
Composer

Sebastian Fagerlund has rapidly emerged as one of the most interesting young Finnish composers. He has studied composition at the Sibelius Academy under the guidance of Erkki Jokinen and received his diploma in composition in 2004. He has also attended several masterclasses in composing led by e.g. Michael Jarrel, Magnus Lindberg and Ivan Fedele.

Fagerlund has been described as a creator of intense musical dramas which are dominated by flowing, fast-moving music rich in sound. The fast flow and rhythmic elasticity are often offset by fragile and lyrically sensitive episodes, and the shift between mobility and immobility is in fact one of the salient features of Fagerlund’s music. Fagerlund`s list of works includes orchestral-, chamber orchestral-, stage-, solo- and chamber music. His music has been performed at several major music events and festivals around the world.
